World Falling Apart*

*But We’re Staying Together
Aug. 14, 2022 – Sept. 18, 2022

It’s late 2022, and let’s be honest: we’re all feeling a little bit of existential dread at the state of the world. Natural disasters, political upheaval, a lingering pandemic, and a faltering global economy: these are all realities, and they can make our head spin. We need more than simple religious platitudes if we are going to navigate this together. Let’s dig deeper into scripture and history and see if we can unearth some hope.

Message line-up:

8/14
The Struggle is Real
The people of Artisan
Listen

We begin our series with an honest look at the way the world is affecting us. We will hear from several Artisans about the heaviness in their world right now, and join in supporting them with empathy and love.

8/21
You Are Not Alone
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

It cannot be repeated often enough: you are not alone in your sufferings. The Bible is full of examples of good, godly people who nevertheless experienced tragedy and trauma. What can we learn from their example?

8/28
In the End
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

One of the overly simplistic platitudes we are trying to avoid is the idea that we’ll all be fine “in the sweet by and by,” some future hope. We should seek to find some balance between a real hope in God’s ultimate healing and saving work and the need for peace and relief in the here and now.

9/4
Rejoice in Suffering?
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

The Bible instructs us to rejoice in our suffering. If we’re not careful with this text, it seems dismissive at best and cruel at worst. Let us look more closely at what this seemingly impossible call might mean.

9/11
Solidarity in Suffering
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

One of the deepest callings of being in Christian community is to bear one another’s burdens. In this way, we can all navigate our challenges together. And what’s more: we live into the example of Jesus, who identifies with all humanity in his own suffering.

9/18
What Gives Me Hope
The people of Artisan
Listen

We conclude the series the way we began: with Artisans sharing their personal stories. But this time, the emphasis is on what is giving us hope. Let’s be inspired by learning what is keeping us all going!
