Work of the People (Epiphany)
Epiphany
Jan. 8, 2023 – Feb. 19, 2023
We continue our theme of liturgy, worship, and church life being the work of the people.
Message line-up:

-
Epiphany of the Lord
- Pastor Scott Austin
-
Listen
We celebrate the last day of the liturgical Christmas season (albeit a couple days late) by reflecting on the story of the magi visiting the child Jesus. This often misplaced story offers us a moving picture of God’s desire in Jesus to offer salvation to every tribe and nation—not just a select few. This is indeed good news!
- Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14; Ephesians 3:1-12; Matthew 2:1-12

A special message from Pastor Don Schiewer, of Dust Church and Ancient Jesus/Future Faith.

Family and Darkness
- Pastor Scott Austin
-
Listen

-
The Controversy of God
- Pastor Scott Austin
-
Listen
The prophet Micah speaks with eloquence about a “controversy” between the people and God. They want to focus on proper worship, while God wants them to focus on justice and mercy. In his own time, Jesus points the people back to these themes at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount.

How to Read the Bible
- Pastor Scott Austin
-
Listen
The biblical texts for this week offer us a wonderful opportunity to consider how (and how not!) to read the Bible. What do you do when you can choose from among the prosperity gospel, stringent literalism, social justice, and signs and wonders—all in one week’s texts? We will try to figure it out together.

-
Life Beyond the Binary
- Pastor Scott Austin
-
Listen
Moses offered the people of Israel a stark choice as they entered the Promised Land: obey God’s commandments and live, or turn away and die. Jesus taught his disciples a new way of thinking, one that was both less simple and more challenging—yet filled with grace.
