Artisan Mixtape

An eclectic mix, perfect for sharing with friends
Aug. 12, 2012 – Sept. 2, 2012

Each Sunday we’re laying down a different music mix to inspire, challenge, and encourage: Scared choral music, Celtic rock, Blues, and Jazz! Each week a different genre will infuse our worship music and help us tune into an engaging biblical message. PLUS, extra music sets after worship. This is a perfect opportunity to invite friends to check out Artisan!

Message line-up:

8/12
Sacred Choral Music
Pastor Scott Austin with special guests from Musica Spei

Traditional sacred choral music performed by members of local ensemble Musica Spei will serve as the basis for this first week. Lessons about each piece will help us orient ourselves to the history of Christian liturgy, including thoughts on how this ancient music relates to our modern experience of worship. Our recording of this service was not up to our standards for podcast quality, but we’re happy to share it with you upon request.

8/19
Celtic Pub Rock
Pastor Scott Austin with special guests Sisters of Murphy
Listen

Celtic pub rockers Sisters of Murphy (featuring Pastor Scott Austin on acoustic guitar) provide the soundtrack for the second week of this series. After hearing traditional Celtic music and perhaps some modern originals, we’ll also hear an inspiring message about the true story of St. Patrick.

8/26
Blues
The Artisan community with special guests Violet Mary
Listen

[Rated “M” for “Mature.”] Craft music artisans Violet Mary (featuring Pastor Mike Muscarella and other Artisan members) bring their powerful brand of blues rock to our sanctuary as we explore what it means to experience tragedy and pain as people of faith. Rather than a sermon, we’ll hear Artisans telling stories of the worst day of their lives. NB: This week’s stories may be inappropriate for some children. We’ll offer additional outside-the-sanctuary children’s programming as needed.

9/2
Jazz
Pastor Scott Austin with Mike Van Allen
Listen

We conclude our Mixtape series with a doozie: pianist Mike Van Allen and our very own Anna Vos will perform fantastic jazz music for us, offering the perfect basis for a challenging sermon about how to live a life of faith improvisationally.
