Lent 2015

Journeying With John (aka Signs of Faith Part Seven)
Feb. 15, 2015 – April 3, 2015

This year during Lent, we will seek to continue to be shaped by the words of scripture as we resume “section hiking” through the Gospel of John, both in Sunday sermons and in our devotional reading at home and in small groups.

Message line-up:

Lenten Preparations/A Valid Testimony
Pastor Scott Austin

In this pre-Lent message, we will frame our intentions for the season, as well as looking at a passage in John 8 where Jesus makes a remarkable declaration about his own identity.

John 8:12-20
Where I Am Going, You Cannot Come
Pastor Scott Austin

In a rather humorous exchange (which includes Jesus wondering to his disciples, “Why do I speak to you at all?”), Jesus foretells his death.

John 8:21-30
Slaves to Sin
Pastor Scott Austin

Jesus’ promise that the truth will make us free does raise an important question: from what must we be freed?

John 8:31-37
Father Abraham?
Pastor Scott Austin

Jesus argues with his Jewish disciples about whether they are truly children of Abraham.

John 8:38-59
The Woman at the Well, Revisited
Chris Sullivan

In this sermon, College of Preachers member Chris Sullivan will revisit an older passage from John, in which Jesus has a significant encounter with a Samaritan woman.

John 4:1-42
The Sixth Sign
Pastor Scott Austin

Jesus heals a blind man and addresses questions about the relationship between sin and sickness.

John 9
Palm Sunday Festival

We’ll celebrate Palm Sunday in style, with a very kid-friendly worship event!

Good Friday Tenebrae Service
