Dec. 3, 2017 – Dec. 24, 2017

Advent is not only the traditional period of waiting and anticipating the coming of Christ; it is also the beginning of a new year in the Christian calendar. The Lectionary texts will serve as our guide through the darkness toward the light of Christ. We are formed by our waiting.

The Gift of Waiting
Pastor Scott Austin

The promises of faith are divided between what we experience now, and the blessings of God that are yet to come. Since “no one knows the hour” when all will be fulfilled, how should we live, think, and act while we are waiting?

Isaiah 64:1-9; Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9; Mark 13:24-37
Peace and Patience
Pastor Scott Austin

Even as we strive to wait for Jesus with patience, we are reminded that our salvation comes from God’s patient love for us. And seeking to live in the tension of that patience, we are called to be people of peace.

Artisan’s social justice team leads us in a liturgy of remembrance and repentance, calling us to bring good news to the oppressed.

Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; Psalm 126; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; John 1:6-8, 19-28
Annunciation and Obedience
Pastor Scott Austin

We conclude our observance of Advent with a meditation on Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary’s obedience to God even in bewilderment offers us an unparalleled example of how our obedience leads to God’s glory being shown to the world.

Because of a technical issue with the recording, there is no podcast for this week.

(Note: since this Sunday is Christmas Eve; we will have just one morning service at 11am. Our normal Christmas Eve Liturgy will be held at 4pm.)

2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16; Psalm 89:1-4, 19-26; Romans 16:25-27; Luke 1:26-38
