Make Peace

Oct. 29, 2023 – Nov. 12, 2023

As we move toward the end of the liturgical year, we reflect on how we can make peace in a world that seems less peaceful with each passing day. (This series is based on the curriculum being used in our children's ministry at the same time, so it will be a great opportunity for families to talk together!)

Message line-up:

10/29
Cultivate Inner Peace
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

The Gospels tell us that Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness to pray as he cultivated his own consciousness of God in the midst of his activities. Christian sages and mystics from the past and in the present day have emphasized the link between contemplation and meditation and continuing Jesus’ acts of healing and peacemaking.

Matthew 5:9; Matthew 22:34–40
11/5
Overcome Fear
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

Making peace requires us to overcome our fears—and it might be helpful to realize that many of our "phobias" are actually forms of hatred of the Other.

Matthew 5:9; Luke 10:25–37
11/12
Honor Every Living Thing
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

Making peace in the world starts in what might seem like an unlikely place: by honoring everything that God made. We look to surprising biblical source for this idea: the flood narrative in Genesis 9.

Matthew 5:9; Genesis 9:8–17
