Signs of Faith

Experiencing John's Gospel
May 13 – June 24, 2012

The book of John is the most fascinating of all the gospels. It contains unique stories, emphasizing the divinity of Jesus with stories of the miraculous signs he performed. We’re going to study the entire book together!

Message line-up:

5/13
Word, Life, and Light
Pastor Scott Austin

There are three key words in the prologue to John’s gospel: Word, Life, and Light. Jesus is all three: the Word made flesh, the bearer of Life, and the light of the world.

(John 1:1-18)
5/20
John the Baptist, John the Witness
Pastor Scott Austin

John the Baptist was not the Messiah, despite what some believed at the time. He was instead the first witness to point to Jesus as the Messiah.

The Calling of the Disciples
Pastor Scott Austin

In this passage, Jesus calls his first few disciples, promising them that they will “see great things!” (This week included lots of group discussion, so we decided not to upload the audio for our podcast.)

(John 1:35-51)
6/3
Water and Wine
Pastor Scott Austin
Listen

In this, the first Sign in John’s gospel, Jesus keeps the party going by turning water into wine. But this was much more than a nice gesture or a cool trick—it was a revelation of his glory!

(John 2:1-11)
6/10
The Cleansing of the Temple
Pastor Scott Austin

In one dramatic action, Jesus both decries the religious corruption of his day and sets himself as the true center and object of worship and faith.

(John 2:13-25)

A wonderful reflection on the story of Nicodemus and Jesus on the rooftop by Anna Vos, an Artisan member.
