Journeying with John

Signs of Faith, Part Ten
February 5 – February 26, 2017

At Artisan, we’ve been studying the book of John in 4-5 week chunks for a few years. We resume this piece by piece study of John’s Gospel in February!

Message line-up:

2/5
Bread and Betrayal
Scott Austin
Listen

The account of Jesus identifying Judas as the one who will betray him is heartbreaking—but it contains a hidden beauty that will break our hearts in a different way.

(John 13:21–30)
2/12
A New Commandment
Scott Austin
Listen

In this passage, Jesus gives the disciples a “new” commandment: love one another. As we seek to apply this commandment to our world today, we will consider a very special opportunity to address an immediate need in Rochester’s refugee community.

(John 13:31–38)
2/19
Jesus Shows the Way
Scott Austin
Listen

In a very special message developed collaboratively at the all church retreat, we look at Jesus’ powerful statement, “If you know me, you will know my Father also”. NOTE: only one service this Sunday, at 11 a.m.

(John 14:1–14)
2/26
The Wild Sweep of Communion
Barb Bushart
Listen

Jesus assures his disciples that they will not be left as orphans even when he has physically departed from earth. He promises the Holy Spirit: variously named as Comforter, Advocate, Helper, one who walks alongside. While these are all potent images of relationship, Christ goes on to describe how the believer is swept into the divine “communion” of the Trinity by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Never alone… abiding in God!

(John 14:15–26)
