Advent and Christmas

A World in Need of a Savior
December 1 – December 29, 2013

In the season of Advent, we anticipate the birth of Jesus—made new in our hearts and minds each year. We also anticipate his triumphant return. But we also celebrate his coming to us, as the one who is with us until the end of time (Matthew 28:20). Come be a part of this beautiful season as we ponder these great mysteries together.

Message line-up:

First Sunday of Advent
Pastor Scott Austin and Jesse Peers

To kick off our Advent season, we are joined by historian Jesse Peers, who will help us understand Advent in its historical-biblical context and encourage us to slow down and observe the holiness of waiting.

(Isaiah 35:1-10; Psalm 122; Romans 13:11-14; Matthew 3:1-12)
Second Sunday of Advent
Pastor Scott Austin

A focus on the great comfort and terrible fear that fill us as we anticipate the Second Coming of Christ.

(Isaiah 2:1-5; Psalm 146:5-10; James 5:7-10; Matthew 24:36-44)
Third Sunday of Advent
Pastor Scott Austin; Ryan and Carolyn Klejment-Lavin

A call to remember or realize the coming of Christ into our personal stories (and histories!) as emmanuel: “God with us”. And a special message from our missional friends Carolyn and Ryan!

(Isaiah 11:1-10; Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19; Romans 15:4-13; Matthew 11:2-11)
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Pastor Scott Austin

As Christmas Day nears, we inhabit Israel’s waiting for the Messiah.

(Isaiah 7:10-16; Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25)
