Imagine a tree in a pot. You see them at garden centers all the time. They’re trees… but they’re not really fulfilling their potential. A tree in a pot can’t live out its destiny: it can’t bear fruit or provide shade. It won’t live very long, and it can’t drop seeds to make new trees.
Why not? It’s simple: because its roots can’t get deep enough. Those potted trees may be a fine way to get started if you want to plant a tree. But if you leave it in the pot, you’re missing the point.
Artisan Church is like a tree in a pot. As tenants in our building, we’ve done some incredible ministry and seen many lives changed by God’s grace. Now we have a wonderful opportunity to purchase this building and land—we have a chance to be deeply rooted in the place where God has called us! With your help, we will continue to be a vibrant church community that encounters God, embraces people, and engages culture in the way of Jesus!
Today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
Do not be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is. (H. Jackson Browne)
Everyone loves a tree that grows good fruit. God has blessed Artisan Church with fruitful ministry over the years: rainwater collection tanks in Uganda, development and missions in Indonesia, service to the poor in our home city of Rochester, and many people experiencing new life in Christ within our church community.
And we want to do more! But without a permanent home, we can’t bear this good fruit much longer. We have to be deeply rooted if we want to continue to be fruitful.
No shade tree? Blame not the sun but yourself. (Chinese proverb)
Have you ever paused under the spreading branches of a tree on a hot, sunny day? God has called us to be a shady place of safety for many weary spiritual travelers—people who don’t meet the expectations they feel church places on them. We love hearing people tell us,
I could never fit in at church… until I found Artisan.
It’s our great joy to be a place of spiritual shelter! Will you help ensure that we can fulfill this calling for years to come?
By sinking its roots deeply into the earth, by accepting the rain that flows towards it, by reaching out to the sun, the tree perfects its character and becomes great. (Deng Ming-Dao)
God calls us to do incredible ministry in this neighborhood. But the simple truth is that we can’t be renters forever. For Artisan’s ministry to endure, we have to take true ownership of our building. We have to be deeply rooted if we are committed to sharing Christ’s love in this place.
Let’s sink our roots deep into the soil where God has planted us!
The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
In nature, life always leads to new life. Strong, healthy trees propagate by scattering seeds, and our church should be no different. We are called not only to do strong ministry in the present but also to multiply our ministry in the future. We are called to plant the seeds of new ministries and even new churches. And by buying our building, we can start now.
The Evangelical Covenant Church will use the proceeds from our purchase of the building to plant as many as three new churches. Let’s not wait until “later” to sow the seeds of new life in Christ—let’s begin today!
Our dream is to live out this calling for years to come. Will you help make that dream a reality?
Encounter God, Embrace People, and Engage Culture in the Way of Jesus
We’re doing more than just purchasing some property here. We’re also improving this facility and turning it into the very best tool for the ministry God calls us to do. With your help, we will undergo a process of beautification, expansion, and development that will dramatically increase our ability to live out our calling.
We want to make our friends and neighbors feel at home when they visit our building. A new church sign, a redesigned main entrance, and added parking will make Artisan Church even more welcoming.
In order to build on our calling, we need to make some room! Increasing the size of the sanctuary would accommodate the growth God has brought without compromising our high value on community.
When you buy a new home, there’s always lots of work to be done. Our church building is no exception. Over the next two years, we’ll address some maintenance issues, including roof repairs and furnace replacement.
Your two-year financial commitment to our Deeply Rooted campaign will help Artisan Church invest in the future as we continue to impact lives and share Christ’s love with our neighbors.
Through your gifts, we will make our building a permanent home where we can live out God’s calling on our church for generations to come! Please click one of the buttons below to make a gift or a commitment.
